HOW YOU GOIN' ?

Gene’s sister, Mary, and Tony flew up from Sydney to holiday with us on Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island, which contains more sand than the Sahara Desert. Amazingly huge trees grow in the sand in the rain forest part of the island, and each grows straight and tall trying to reach the sunshine above. As vegetation dies and rots it becomes the bed for new plant growth.

This Strangler Fig grows DOWNWARD,when a seed falls into a crevice high up in a tree. When the vine reaches the ground it takes root and begins thickening around the supporting tree. It becomes so strong that the supporting tree can’t continue to expand, and when the supporting tree dies, the strangler fig remains and has formed a shell.
We didn't see any brumby (AU's wild horses that are a cross between Arabian and Clydesdales,) but did see dingoes.
Dingoes look like dogs but can be very dangerous. A lady was bitten just last week and the dingo was “put down”. As humanity converges, there is more angst and the dingo population is being culled out.
We had a fair amount of “liquid sunshine” while on Fraser, but “no drama/no worries”, for the storm afforded us the wonderful opportunity of seeing this “water spout” (like a tornado over the ocean). We even saw several “why-els” or
“Y-L’s” (whales) breaching.
Well, good on ya!

i always enjoy your science lessons! what cool pic of that water spout!!!and whales too!! wow!
Thanks for the update on Steve Erwin. Your pictures are great on full screen.
I hope your visit with Gene's sister was a good one. Love that picture of the water spout! How amazing. I went whale watching several times in Hawaii but never got to see one. I wish I could have seen it. I hope you have a great day!
Hey,
Is breaching a whale a reproductive term??? (Remember I teach 4 year olds. I'm not familiar with that phrase):-o.
Love ya,
Mary Anne
Your sister and Tony look like really neat people.
Too bad about the poor dingoes. Living on Easy Street (foraging in garbage bins for food) has a very high price.
